Sunflowers of the Sea with Ashley Kidd

  • Sgt. Pepperoni's 4533 Campus Drive Irvine, CA, 92612 United States (map)

What happens when you remove a STAR from its environment? Especially a keystone predator in just an ecological instant? From 2014-2018, ninety-five percent of sunflower sea stars melted away in a wasting event. This pandemic blindsided everyone up and down the Pacific coastline, and it has big consequences for kelp forests and the California ecology at large. Join us as we talk with Ashley Kidd from the Sunflower Star Laboratory about restoration efforts across North America.
